An interior designer does not come cheap. Plus they are very impersonal. But thanks to the internet, you have a plethora of inexpensive tips to put together your own house which can have all the elements of your personality. A designer look without the designer expense so to say. So here are 5 tips that will surely get the creative juices flowing.
- Colour schemes: use three colours or shades A colour scheme is a deal maker. This is the primary part. Colour is so personal and it creates moods within us that inspire. Create an inspiration board. Mark the family of colours you are naturally gravitating towards. The rule here is simple.Try to select a mix of three colours or shades. One main colour for the walls, another colour for larger accents such as couches and chairs. A third colour that pops in smaller accessories such as flowers, pillows and keepsakes. Remember colour is influenced by how much light you bring into your home and how natural lighting seeps in. It also depends on the size of the space you are trying to revamp.
- Add texture to your home An all-white room may have linen curtains, a velvet cushion, shiny silk bedsheets, leather chairs and jute baskets, and a cotton sofa with a faux fur blanket tossed on the side. These little elements elevate the feel of your room and adds multiple dimensions to an otherwise flat feel.
- Add big statement pieces You need one thing in your space that instantly grabs eyeballs. Too many random things spread in every corner is very uneasy on the eye and dispensable. Throw in a statement couch piece instead. Or a chandelier and watch the eyes of your guests light up as soon as they walk into that space.
- Use trays, decorative bowls and baskets Things strewn around the house is very untidy. Chargers, loose change, scrunchies, etc all take away the sophistication of the space. Throw in a dull gold tray with a mirror bottom for all your trinkets on your side table. Or on top of the tray, place a pretty candle, a couple of books and a small succulent. Little things like these seem frivolous, but they are important to a layered, decorated aesthetic.
- Add flowers to every room A simple vase with a a simple long stemmed rose is an instant pick me up. There are numerous easy-care plants that you can purchase for your home that will last years if properly fed and watered. Adding tall green plants in your house couldn’t have been any easier. This ‘natural’ element is all you need to breathe life into a dull space.
